in addition to the road, biscuits, and all things junky….we reallllly have a love for books. there’s nothing like the feel of a good book in your hands. there’s nothing like the smell of an old book. the crinkle of pages as you turn each one. and there’s definitely nothing like the feeling i get when i walk into a library or a bookstore.
i especially love little mom-n-pop style bookstores. the kinds that have the books wonkily stacked all over the place, and the floor creaks when you walk.
“so many books, so little time.” – frank zappa
and i really love small-town libraries…round top has a really, really amazing library and if you haven’t been, you MUST add it to your to-do list. and the town we grew up in, overton texas, had the most awesome little library…i loved to spend time in that library…it was an old historic house with cozy rooms….all with big squishy, cozy chairs, old rugs, and fireplaces….and of course, books lining the walls from bottom to top. but the best part about our little library was the little old ladies that worked there…that greeted you each time you walked in … with cider or hot chocolate in the winter. and in the summertime, the reading club was one of our favorite places to be. my love of books began in that little old library…from judy blume and beverly cleary to lucy maud montogomery and francine pascal and everything in between…
“i have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.” -jorge luis borges
because of our love of books, we are realllllly excited to be carrying books in our new store.
we spent many an hour reading through book titles and hand picking which books we wanted to carry. books about texas. books about music. books about pioneering men and women. books we LOVE. and nowwwwww….they are also available online! amie worked up the top of this page…and i pretty much get warm fuzzies just looking at it.
because whether you read each one cover to cover or not, these are just awesome books to have on your bookshelf, on your coffee table, or on your night stand. books have a soul. and a spirit and they bring character into every room.
“in a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.” -mark twain
y’all take a look…and let us know what you think!! and check back…because when it comes to books, we just can’t get enough! we’ll be adding new titles to the bookshelf often!
“never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” – lemony snicket
