Airstream Chronicles Through The Years

July 23, 2025

We never set out to be in the Airstream renovation business. But one day we were reupholstering a pink glitter vinyl sofa, and the next we were turning tin cans into rolling dreamscapes for some of our favorite kindred spirits. It’s part magic, part madness, and a whole lot of heart. From cosmic cowgirl saloons to surf shacks by the sea, each one tells its own story. Here’s a peek inside the trailers we’ve poured our souls (and probably a little glitter) into over the years.

Miranda Lambert Cosmic Cowgirl Airstream

Our friend Miranda Lambert wrote “The Airstream Song,” which she said was inspired by us. So it was instantly clear that Miranda needed an Airstream of her own.

We started with a completely gutted 1953 Airstream Flying Cloud, added a Victorian sofa that we
covered in hot pink glitter vinyl, we created a booth out of vintage license plates, and of course, we
made homemade curtains. And we ended up with a cosmic cowgirl saloon on wheels for Miranda’s very
first headlining tour, that we named ourselves, “The Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars” tour.

It was dubbed “Wanda” and it has been pulled to every single Miranda concert since 2010, and serves as her vibe room backstage.

After years of life on the road, soaked in glitter, grit, and girl power, Wanda had seen it all. But even cosmic cowgirls need a refresh now and then.

Miranda Lambert’s Rolling Speakeasy Airstream

After a hard nine years on the road Miranda’s original Airstream was in need of a makeover.

This time she was officially the headliner, a boss babe who deserved a swanky speakeasy on wheels, and we wanted to give her old Airstream a new design that still felt whimsical, but more mature, reflecting where she’d been over the last nine years.

So we gutted what was left of what we’d done 9 years earlier, channeled inspiration from the new tour “Hippie Vagabond” and started fresh.

We used dusty pink velvets, chocolate dip-dyed flapper fringe, faux snakeskin, and reclaimed floors. The end result was some that felt like a sultry, whiskey-soaked cowgirl dream.

Once Miranda’s wheels were in motion, it wasn’t long before another troubadour came calling. . . this one with a love for family, fresh air, and old-school songwriting.

Dierks Bentley’s Americana Troubadour Airstream

Dierks Bentley wanted an Airstream that brought together the two most important things in his life. He wanted it to be one part songwriter/troubadour lair and one part camping hideout for him and his family.

So we did our due diligence, listened to hours of Dierks’ music, scoured vintage stores for pieces that fit the vibe and used a ton of salvage pieces.

The standout pieces to us with this Airstream is the resin booth table made out of Hatch Show Prints and a Grand piano pedal board, flanked by a salvaged pew turned booth seats. Also, let’s not forget one of the main characters here is the Ralph Lauren metallic blue paint we used in the bedroom. It will always be one of our favorite spaces.

From country roads to coastal highways, the next project took us somewhere entirely different. A surf shack sanctuary for a punk rock poet.

Billie Joe Armstrong’s Zen Surf Shack Airstream

We started this project for Green Day’s front man with a scrap of paper he found on the street one day, it said “Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love” – Rumi. These words, which Billie Joe now has tattooed on this chest, led us down a path of discovery with this Airstream.

This project was commissioned by Billie Joe’s wife, Adrienne, as a 20th wedding anniversary present, so there was no room for error.

We wanted this to be the most streamlined trailer we’d ever done, with vintage reclaimed flooring and a 150-year-old Indian temple piece for the bed nook.

We created surfboard holders out of hand-tooled leather straps, and repurposed vintage tire shop signs (“alignment”) as dual messages for the sofa skirting.

In the end, we like the think the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer, Billie Joe, is holed up along the California coast, unassumingly, in his tiny Airstream writing his next Grammy award-winning hit inside a space we created.

And somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, we carved out a quiet little hideaway for a cowgirl and her baby girl. Proof that not all adventures have to be loud.

Amie’s Neverland Cowgirl Airstream

In the middle of all this Airstream mayhem, we found a little time to throw together a mother-daughter boho hideaway for Amie and her then 2 year old daughter, Indie.

We took a defunct 1978 Airstream Land Yacht, added some old furniture we had in the warehouse, and poured a whole jar of glitter into pink metallic paint. We added in vintage pink hued rugs, handmade details, and made homemade curtains out of leftover velvet.

The result: a Neverland playhouse on wheels for a mother and her baby girl.

We never meant to become Airstream whisperers… but these trailers became more than just metal and wheels. They became storybooks, saloons, sanctuaries. And maybe we’re not done yet. Because as long as there are highways to chase and dreams to build, we’ll keep rolling.
