when 2 worlds of junk collide.

November 9, 2016

you know it’s funny how things work out. i vividly remember receiving a phone call from Mike Wolfe probably 10 years ago. we were at our warehouse in College Station. he was calling to see if we knew of any old barns that had tons of junk in them. something kinda off the beaten path. something that had treasures lying within. American Pickers didn’t exist. Junk Gypsies the TV show didn’t exist. we were all just a bunch of folks who had a deep, deep love for all things old. we shared a passion for the hidden treasures. for the thrill of the hunt. we appreciated the STORY behind things more than we appreciated the THINGS.

we loved the ROAD. and not just any road…

the TWO LANE ROAD.

we had never met but, in the junk world, we knew of his name. and i guess he knew of ours. we talked shop and talked junk and bid farewell…we never forgot the phone call. and a few years later, when American Pickers aired, we understood more clearly the purpose of his call. Mike Wolfe was a man on a mission. a mission to help save old and forgotten junk. he, like us, believed in the imperfect glory of rust and dings and dents. he was a pioneer. a trailblazer. an old soul trapped in a newfangled world but hell-bent on preserving history. one piece of junk at a time.

and now, many miles, many junk piles, and many moons later, we’ll finally meet the man behind that voice on the other end of the phone. we’re headed to his store, Antique Archaeology, in Nashville later this week. we’ll be signing books whilst trying desperately not to buy everything in his store…which i can only imagine now is a challenge of which i will humbly accept defeat.

basically, what i’m saying is y’all need to come. you need to come to Antique Archaeology this Saturday. we can talk junk and roadtrips and buy all the things in Mike’s shop. because Willie would want it this way.

this saturday, November 12, 2-4pm…because it’s high time that Mike Wolfe’s world of junk and our world of junk collided.

So wish I could be there but I live too far away. I would be fighting you for all the treasures in his store for sure. Someday I hope to visit the Nashville store. And someday I hope to return to the Texas hill country and make a stop at Junk Gypsies

It’s like you are I my marriage or something. The hubs LOVES American Pickers; I’ve been following you ever since you first got a blog! He and I are notoriously late when we travel because we HAVE to go via back roads, cotton foelds, broken barns, and roadside cafes or bust. Don’t get me started on flea markets. And when we can’t agree , we turn to therapy : the Antiques Roadshow.
So wish we could been in Tennessee for thus spontaneous combustion of fireballs!
