It feels like fate. In 1998, the cult-classic film Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman made its debut. That same year, Junk Gypsy was born. Maybe it was written in the stars, or maybe it was just a little bit of magic, but ever since, that story of wild-hearted women and small-town enchantment has been woven into the fabric of JG.

Inspired by the mystical writings of Alice Hoffman and the beloved film that gave us midnight margaritas, Practical Magic has always been a touchstone for us and a reminder that the strongest spells are love, laughter, and a little chaos.

What began as a one-off Practical Magic party (check out that blog here) has grown into one of our most beloved traditions. Each fall, under the Texas night sky, dreamers and wanderers gather in the front yard of Junk Gypsy for a night of velvet gowns, lace gloves, wild dancing, and untamed sisterhood. The annual Practical Magic Prom has become a place where magic and mischief collide.

This year’s theme, Season of the Witch, was a love letter to the mystical. The yard shimmered with sequins and starlight, filled with friends who looked like they’d spilled straight from the Owens sisters’ attic trunk. There were disco witches, bog witches, pink witches, garden witches, rhinestone witches, rodeo ribbon witches, and every kind of spell-caster in between.

We even had a few Very Important Witches fly in for the night, including Mel Robbins, Grace Mitchell of HGTV, Leanne Ford of HGTV, and our longtime friend Miranda Lambert and her crew, who added even more sparkle to the night.

The soundtrack carried the night from start to finish. The Billie Jeans opened with harmonies that felt like a spell in themselves, and Black Cat Choir, a Round Top favorite, lifted the energy well into the witching hour.

Goode Co.’s Yonderlust cocktail trailer brought the potions, Lady Elaine poured spooky cocktails, and Goode Co. & Local Roots kept bellies full with bites made for dancing under the stars. Guests even found themselves mingling with alpacas in witch costumes, thanks to Texas Party Animals, proving that in Round Top, even the animals know how to party.

As the lights dimmed and the last song echoed through the yard, the night felt suspended in time — a blur of glitter, laughter, and Texas moonlight. The kind of night that lingers long after the candles burn out, tucked somewhere between memory and magic.

Every year, Practical Magic Prom reminds us how special it is to live in a town where community feels like family, where a little sparkle and a lot of heart can turn an ordinary evening into something truly enchanted.

From Alice Hoffman’s novel to the film that gave us midnight margaritas, Practical Magic has always reminded us that the strongest spells are love, laughter, and a little chaos.

That is what Prom has become: a gathering of wild hearts, a celebration of everyday magic, and a night for the spellbooks.

Until next year, keep your boots dusty, your hearts untamed, and your magic alive. ✨

A special thank you to our dear friend and talented photographer, Leigh Michael (@roundtopfashionguide), for capturing the night so beautifully. We are endlessly grateful for the way she brings Round Top magic to life through her lens.
XOXOXOXO
