texas antiques week – deconstructed

March 5, 2020

it’s that time of the year again…the sun is shining, the grass is green, the wildflowers are about to awaken from their sweet winter slumber, and around here, tents are starting to dot the fields all along our little country roads.

all this could only mean one thing … texas antiques week is upon us. and we are so here for it. we’re here for the iced tea and cold beer at Zapp Hall. we’re here for the deviled eggs at Local Roots. we’re here for the pimento cheese at Legal Tender (clearly food is a priority to us). we’re here for the live music. we’re here for the JUNK. but most importantly, we’re here for the fellowship and friendships that we’ve forged over the past 20 years through this junk business.

once again, we will attempt to make sense of the completely non-sensical. to make sense of the dates, the events, the venues, and the chaos and the beauty that all comprise texas antiques week.

as many of you antiques week veterans know, texas antiques week is really more like texas antiques 3-4 weeks. so to get to the point … Texas Antiques Week is March 20ish-April 5ish. the original core dates are March 27-April 5 but nowadays folks come as early as the second week of March. it’s a bonafide season here with grey and blurry lines and no defined dates. there is no governing body; therefore, all of the independent venues have their own start and end dates. this is part of what gives it so much personality … it’s freedom, it’s independence. but this is also what makes it so damn confusing.

there are a few really great websites that do a diligent and neverending job of trying to keep everyone updated on which fields/venues are open on what dates. we suggest checking those out here and here. you can also study up before you come by reading some of our old blogs and you can snag a Round Top Antiques Show Guide or a Show Daily once you arrive to help! we’re open year round here at the JG store so anytime you come, we hope you’ll stop by and see us!

this spring, we have some fun events on tap … of course we’ll continue the tradition of the Front Porch Series. we welcome singer-songwriters to our porch almost daily for live music that’ll make ya wanna pull up a chair and stay awhile.

we’re also excited to welcome back Chef Callie Speer of Holy Roller restaurant in Austin, Texas. She’ll be here in her decked out airstream-turned-into-a-restaurant-on-wheels serving up good food, full bar options, and cold beer. of course, our friends over at Red 55 Winery will be here all week long selling wine by the glass or by the bottle! AND, the oh-so-famous Barbecue Wife, Catherine Stiles of Stiles Switch BBQ will be here serving up Bloody Mary’s for the Hangover Brunch and Margaritas for our Taco Tuesday!
