a little witch in all of us.

October 14, 2019

we love it when the stars align in a magical, mystical, cosmic kind of way and the perfect moment is born. this antiques fest, it was our Practical Magic Party. it was enchanting and perfect. let the spell casting begin…

what started as a simple idea to honor one of our all time FAVE movies and consequently the theme of the front of our store, quickly exploded into a concept that y’all LOVED and connected with (ahem) …

Practical Magic inspired … complete with pumpkins, concrete frogs, owl lamps, tons of dried botanicals, and of course, broomsticks.

there’s something about the movie Practical Magic. it was pretty much a flop at the box office but now has a cult following. we’re part of that following. for sure. 100%.

maybe it’s because we refuse to grow up and we’ll always believe in magic … and the cosmos. and shooting stars. and making wishes. maybe it’s because of my never ending loyalty to my best friend, sandy (sandra bullock’s friends call her sandy. duh.). maybe it’s the sisterhood. the power of women joining hands and battling evil and kickin’ ass.

speaking of sisters, 2 beds…one of gillian and one for sally.

lots of dried botanicals for that mystic apothecary vibe…

we couldn’t resist. broomsticks had to happen…

early in the evening, witches from across the land began making their way to our front yard …

they came by the dozens … on foot, by car, or broomstick.

and then there was us … mom as aunt frances of course. me channeling my inner sally owen because we all know sandra bullock is my bestie. and amie dressing up as a wild-haired good witch of her own. the “good” part is still up for debate but whatever … i’ll allow it for the sake of the blog.

a good witch who fixes her sister’s necklace when it’s backwards…

taco bowls were served (until we ran out … we had no IDEA this many of y’all would show up to our little shindig)

and we drank moonlight margaritas in honor of the night’s namesake.

and then the sun began to set, the cauldron bubbled, and Practical Magic played on the screen under the tent…didn’t seem like it could get any better.

getting ready for the band…

and then it happened. it got better. y’all. Nightbird, the Stevie Nicks Tribute Band brought the freakin’ house down. Unlike anything EVER. the songs, the voice, the dance moves, the fog … OMG … AMAZING!

it was so much fun, y’all. such a carefree night filled with good spirits and good witches. thank all of y’all so much for coming! we can’t wait to do it again next fall! and don’t worry, we’ll order more witches hats!

with annie sloan, rachel hardage barrett of country living mag and paige hull

and the cutest little witch award goes to this one…

we couldn’t end this blog without including some of our inspo…some of our favorite parts from the movie…

signing off from our land of enchantment to yours…

This looks absolutely delightful!!! I went on my first girlfriends trip, down to Austin this year. We based it around the ACL to see Mumford & Sons, but also took a day side trip to Waco, and a day side trip to Junk Gypsies store!!! We *JUST* missed the Antiques Week, Prom and Practical Magic Party as we were in Round Top on Monday! *sad face* BUT, couldn’t have brought anything home on the plane anyway, so it’s probably best that we didn’t get to browse the tents. We would have just been going crazy or shipping junque home!!
But, we spent about 3 hours in the store just looking at and touching everything and I totally fangirled and geeked out when all of a sudden Amie was standing in the store when I came around the corner. She said “Hi” to me and I am pretty sure I squeaked.
I would have of course LOVED to been at Antiques Week, Prom or what is *definitely* even way more my style, the PM party with Stevie tribute band!!! I would have thought I died and went to trifecta heaven… Have to say too, I am Amie’s dark hair-do twin. She’s just a little younger, skinnier and cuter than I am, hahaha!
    Just love you two.
    Hugs from Iowa.

        Mumford was AMAZING.
        I cried.
The whole trip was just one best thing after another! Had SO much fun.
And I drink out of my Gypsies owl/cattle skull/floral mug every day. <3
Now that you replied to me, I had to squeak again. Personal hellos from both you gals. My life is complete.
