cowgirl magazine

July 6, 2016

a few months ago, we were pretty darn honored to learn cowgirl magazine wanted to do a feature on junk gypsy. and then we thought they might be delusional when they dropped the news that they wanted to put us on the cover. and by “us”, they meant amie and me. which seemed seriously weird since vertically-challenged, texas girls in muddy boots does not a cover model make. and since jewel and country legend, Reba (no last name needed…moment of silence please), had recently graced the cover of said magazine. we instantly conjured covergirl images in our heads…fans blowing while leggy and dewy models work it for the camera, which seemed quite the paradox to us in our old boots and torn up jeans tromping through our barn sweaty (and by sweaty, i DO NOT mean dewy) and grimy.

COWGIRL MAGAZINE, y’all. COW.GIRL.MAGAZINE. (i tried to type that one with lots of extra dramatic emphasis) where the wild west meets the high fashion cowgirl. a magazine that stampedes across the big sky of montana to the prickly pear landscapes of arizona to the guitar rockin’ world of nashville. a magazine that possibly loves fringe, turquoise, and denim as much as we do.

after confirming that ken & lucinda were aware of our heights and our lack of model elegance…the photoshoot commenced. here’s some behind the scenes action and a few of the shots that didn’t make the cut…

before you keep scrolling, i must warn you, i’m showing a little skin here…look out kardashians.

and y’all knowwww we had to wear vintage up in this shoot. amie is wearing a vintage majorette jacket hand-picked for her from our good friend, winnie, and i’m wearing a verrrrrrry old vintage pearl snap we’ve had for years and years and years. it’s always been one of my faves and this seemed like the perfect occasion to pull it out since this was for the JULY cover and they were wanting a patriotic look. just add JG boots, turquoise and we were officially camera-ready. although oddly, there were no fans. nor dew. just us and our junk. and speaking of junk…no JG shoot would be complete without a chandelier…

and our favorite crown sign…

and because i have no idea what is happening here…and i’m not sure i want to…

and the final product…i’m still a little freaked out by my serious look but disregarding that little awkward bit, we are honored and excited and soooo thrilled to be featured in this mag!! ken, lucinda, and crew spent almost a week here…they realllllly immersed themselves into the full texas antiques week experience. from junkin’ to junk-o-rama prom to royers cafe!

anddddd…between takes, this was happening out in the barn…

and this…

y’all snag a copy and read all about all the thangs!!

XOXOXO, y’all!!!

It was so nice meeting you, Amie, when Ken and Lucinda were there for the story and photo shoot. I would loved to have met Jolie, as well. And y’all’s dad was awesome! I just got word a couple of weeks ago from Ken that they will be doing a review of my book, The Whole Enchilada, in the Oct/Nov issue of Cowgirl Magazine! Soooooo excited! The story on Junk Gypsy and Round Top was fantastic! Congrats!
